Where to begin? This may have been one of my top books for the year. Robin Wall Kimmerer perfectly combines spiritual ideologies with science to showcase Mother Earth in an era when she seems to have been placed on the back burner. Robin encourages every soul to partake in a conscious effort to perform their assigned role as humans on this planet and to put in the work to align our standards with the environment’s needs.
Everyone should read this in their lifetime. I recommend it as a good follow up to The Serviceberry. Robin provides a well rounded view of the natural and spiritual world. This book relays the important message of caring for the land in a delicate way that anyone can digest. It also raises the important issues of today and offers real accounts as a mother battling the need to continue her traditions in an ever-changing environment. Robin offers the most obvious of solutions, if we only take the time to implement them.
Each chapter brought out new emotions and hardships of our relationships with the world and with family and friends. Braiding Sweetgrass really comes full circle and leaves you inspired to realign your values and to respect all of your surroundings.
